The World Bank plays an essential role in sharing and creating global knowledge to address development challenges. As part of this, the World Bank and GFDRR have also launched the Urban Floods Community of Practice (UFCOP), a collaborative space for practitioners and policymakers to share solution-oriented knowledge and operational experience, and discuss integrated flood risk management solutions for cities. This cross-cutting initiative promotes an integrated approach to urban flood risk management that relies on both engineered and non-engineered measures, including risk assessments, risk-informed land use planning, participatory community risk mapping, comprehensive building codes, flood risk reduction investments in infrastructures, public awareness campaigns as well as institutional and financing arrangements in line with good governance principles. UFCOP is jointly sponsored and operated by the Social, Urban, Rural and Resiliency and Water Global Practices, with support from the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), the Water Partnership Program (WPP) and the WB Tokyo Development Learning Center (TDLC).
