Event Summary

The 5th International Symposium on the Effects of Surface Geology on Seismic Motion (ESG5) will be hold on August 2016 and take place in Taipei, Taiwan. The symposium will discuss the site effect related topics especially focus on main theme which is “Challenges of Applying Ground Motion Simulation to Seismology and Earthquake Engineering”. The symposium is jointly host by National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering, Taiwan (NCREE) and National Taiwan University, Taiwan (NTU).

In the past few decades, the site effects of seismic ground motions induced by surface geology and structure were getting emphatic in seismology and earthquake engineering. Possible disasters for cities located on alluvium basin or plain induced from site amplification during earthquake should be taken seriously consideration. First priority problem related to symposium theme is to simulate high frequency motions. However, shallow velocity structures were still unclear for many regions in the world that it still need more exploration such as microtremer or borehole experiences.
