From flash floods to extended droughts and variable rainfall, the impacts of a changing climate are now a reality for many rural communities. In this context, accurate and reliable climate information can support governments and individuals to take actions that protect lives and livelihoods, while building resilience to future climatic shocks.
However, information alone is not enough. Developing and delivering climate information requires strong communication channels that link observation and data collection to interpretation, translation, and dissemination. It also requires tailored support services that are responsive to the diverse needs, interests and abilities of communities.
Join Mercy Corps and NASA-SERVIR for an interactive discussion on what it takes to translate climate information and earth observation data into action. Hear Mercy Corps and partners’ recent findings from the USAID-funded Climate Information Services Research Initiative’s work with smallholder farmers in West Africa, and SERVIR’s insights from nearly 15 years of experience linking earth observation data from space to village. This will be an interactive learning event and will offer a space for all participants to share their own perspectives on the challenges and opportunities for using climate and earth observation data to manage risk and build resilience.
