Design and Risk Communication for Impact : Roadtesting the New GFDRR Framework and Tools for the Effective Use of Open Risk Data

Event Summary

Organization: Resurgence, Vizonomy, GFDRR

Description

Date: Tuesday, May 15, 2:00pm – 6:00pm

Room: Galeria de Rectores

How do we move beyond data into risk informed decision-making ? The purpose of this workshop is to pilot a new framework and tools developed by GFDRR, Resurgence and Vizonomy developed to assist project designers maximise the impact of open risk data. This design workshop will introduce the framework and then allow participants to use its tools to design a series of projects in primarily urban contexts that engage the users of risk information from the outset. Participants will be exposed to a set of collaboration and learning, data/modelling, and communication tactics of proven effectiveness. Examples of projects that will be designed using these new tools may include i) an evacuation and shelter plan for a small coastal city community ii) an early warning system for severe weather events in a metropolitan riverine environment iii) a personal flood insurance programme for urban residents in a megacity iv) a flood and storm impact mitigation project to protect critical local media and telecommunications infrastructure.
