Speakers

  • Paul Hayden, Director, Resolve Network
  • Scott Ferguson, Technical Director – Flood Risk Management, Ambiental
  • David Martin, Technical Director, Ambiental
  • Professor John G. Rees, British Geological Survey

Description

The purpose of this workshop was to provide a background to quantitative approaches for natural hazard risk assessment (including perils such as flooding, tropical cyclone, earthquake, drought, landslide). Current methodological approaches, such as computer-based flood modelling and probabilistic catastrophe (CAT) modeling, were presented and explained. Delegates benefitted from information-sharing and practical, case study-based material, showing how approaches such as how loss / exposure modelling can be used to better map and model natural hazard disaster risk, whilst estimating potential financial damages from extreme events.
