Short Bio of Sushil Gupta, General Manager, Risk Modeling and Insurance, RMSI Private Limited, India, Email: sushil.gupta@rmsi.com
Mr. Gupta has about 20 years of experience in the field of catastrophic risk modeling, engineering seismology, and disaster risk management. His areas of expertise include disaster risks assessment for natural and man-made hazards; historical and instrumental seismicity, earthquake catalogs, seismic monitoring and data analyses, tectonics, site-selection for nuclear power plant (NPP) sites, strong motion seismic instrumentation and data analysis, seismic alarms, early warning systems, development of earthquake design basis ground motion parameters: strong motion attenuation studies, deterministic seismic hazard analysis (DSHA), Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis (PSHA), site-specific design ground response spectra, earthquake simulation, spectral compatible time histories for NPPs; seismic shake table testing, and seismic re-evaluation of older generation NPPs.
He has authored over 45 research publications and has three Research Awards and one Research Reward to his credit. Recently, his study on disaster risk assessment for all the countries (37 countries) in the Central Asia and Caucasus (8 country), ASEAN (10), South Asia (8), and South Eastern Europe (11 country) have been published by the World Bank and UNISDR. He was deeply involved in preparing the State Disaster Management Plan (SDMP) of the Rajasthan (largest State) and Haryana State of India and Yemen National Probabilistic Multi-Hazard Risk Assessment studies. Currently, he is also involved in Fire Risk and Hazard analysis of all the states in India for revamping the Fire Service (101, First Responder) in the country. Mr. Gupta has also been extensively involved in practical engineering applications such as emergency operating procedures (EOPs) for NPPs and the seismic re-evaluation of existing NPPs in India.
He has several advanced certifications such as advanced studies in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR): Vulnerabilities and capacities in the context of climate change from EPFL Lausanne, Switzerland. He has been associated with different professional bodies such as the Indian Society of Earthquake Technology (ISET), the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), New Delhi, India, Seismological Society of America, and Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI), USA.
