I take up your offer. Of course we are interested in the multi-hazard model for Haiti. You send would be great.
Daniele
Dear DR SERGIO MORA-CASTRO.
We fully agree with your opinion. Must begin with an assessment of multihazard area. We are very interested in your results and methodology.
Please send your e-mail to pdavvs@rambler.ru
We conducted similar work in the North Caucasus (scale 1: 1000 000). We tried to make the method of interconnecting the dangers of individual processes and assessment of geological map of multi-hazard area. The complex includes: seismic hazard, landslides, mudslides, subsidence, karst, fluvial erosion and gully, salinity, water logging, radioactive danger. We are happy to share their findings. But the method and map prepared in Russian:), so the translation may take some time. Sorry, my English not very well.

Merci. We received the report.... Trying to translate.
Viktor
Sorry I thought it was visible through the mail.

I should also mention that my interest is understanding how
Earth Observation data can be of use in assessing exposure or
other parameters of the disaster risk equation.
THanks Daniele
Thank you very much for the report. It is extremely interesting.
From the report it is not clear to me if the data used in mesuring "exposition" both for physical (buildings urban land use) and demographic you use spatial referenced (as in a GIS, or map) or you rely on data vailable from satistics (table) only.
Thank you again
Daniele

I would like to comment that on behalf of UN-SPIDER, we also have an interest in promoting the use of space-based information for both disaster risk management (including preparedness) and emergency response. In the case of Haiti, the SpaceAid framework established a dedicated webpage to Haiti containing information on the satellites that were tasked and the type of sensors used, as well as links to providers and generators of information on Haiti which included damage assessments. The link is: www.un-spider.org/haiti. However, a subequent visit to Haiti by UN-SPIDER led to the conclusion that it was mostly UN and US agencies which had enough internet bandwidth to download imagery. To this end we provided over 50 gigabytes of imagery and data to Relief web in a physical fashion at the end of January, as they were traveling to Port au Prince to support PDNA effort.
Taking into consideration the fact that UN-SPIDER has been set up to support national agencies in accessing and making use of space-based information to support all phases of the disaster cycle, we feel its importat to support both the National Civil Protection Agency and the National Center for Geo-Spatial Information (CNIGS) so that these two agencies can begin to re-establish their capacities to access such information, and to be able to use it in the future.
Taking into consideration the current limitations of both CNIGS and the Civil Protection agency of Haiti, links have been established between these two agencies and the GIS unit operated by MINUSTAH, and with the Information Management Unit of OCHA, both of which have the capacity to access and download such informationa and plot it. In addition, we were very much interested in the two geo-viewers which were developed for Haiti, the one by ESRI, and the 3D-UDOP geo-viewer elaborated by Thermopylae Sciences and Technology for South Comm. 3D-UDOP is framed in the Google earth environment, as has been able to set up an easy to use layering system that allows the user to overlay information from a vareity of sources already available, and one could even add layers of information to it.

I have not yet started my involvement in this forum. You would not be surprised to hear that I have been very busy this year, especially since 12 January.
Gracias! lo hare. Saludos
Quisiera leerlo y compartirlo.
José Antonio
Olá! I decided I needed to keep up with what you are saying!
Thanks Sergio.Just got back from Geneva this evening. Will look at tomorrow.
sergio, thanks! its good to be back. And very impressed with the community so far. Look forwarding to getting more involved.
Merci Sergio de m'avoir invite. J'espere contribuer activement aux debats
On the question regarding software/models on damage assessment and debris estimation -- are you looking for models that have been applied to the Haiti earthquake exclusively, or models in general. There have been several studies on the Haiti earthquake that have resulted in debris estimates based on Lidar mapping (Purdue University), not modeling. I also believe that some of the modeling companies have used models to estimate total economic loss but I am not familiar with the details. Perhaps, others might have more information.
Sergio, you did a great job tonight! So glad to meet you through this conference. Lauren
