Hi Mark~
I'm definitely interested in participating and presenting, thank you for inviting me--- by when would you need an answer? I've got another work obligation on my plate right now but really hope to accommodate both of these options.
Best, Jessica
Hi Mark~Thank you for the quick response. Yes, I'll definitely know more before then. Hopefully I'll know in a week or less.
Best,
Jessica

Thanks so much for checking. And Joaquin, thanks for the support. I would love to present, in any setting, on the psychology of risk perception, and I do hope these thoughts might benefit the entire conference in some way. The topic may be getting a little more conversation in D.C. policy circles than normal. I have just learned that the Washington Post is going to feature their review of my book "How Risky Is It, Really? Why Our Fears Don't Always Match the Facts" on the cover of their book review section next Sunday, May 2.
Hi Mark~
Thanks for following up and thank you for the kind offer. I have figured out my availability and I could be there on June 1 and possibly June 2 as well. I'm not sure if this works with the conference schedule? Should I give you a call to chat? Or do you have an email I can use? I'd like to mention a slight variation on the topic as well. Best, Jessica
Thanks!
Dear Mark,
It really would be great to share with the participants our experiences working on "The Eclipse", here in Africa. Of course I would be most delighted to participate on the panel. Thank you for the invitation. How long would I be required to stay in Washington (although I would like to stay for most of the conference), are there any side initiatives you would be working on during the conference? Please send me some information about the panel; what I need to know and if there are specific requirements beyond sharing our experiences and participating in panel discussions? I have no doubt that participating on the panel would deepen our understanding and I hope participants will find our experiences enriching as well. Thank you.

I don't know if this bears on making arrangements, but I have been invited by Jack Harald to participate in another panel at the conference as well, sponsored by the NAS Disasters Roundtable, the session at 9 on June 3 titled How Communities Can Use Risk Assessment Results on Understanding Risk.
And my publicist is trying to figure out when and how and whether I can do something to promote my book while I'm there, which might involve questions of timing and location as well. So be in touch we we can iron out lots of fun details! thanks
Dear Mark,
My email address is aramide.adebola@gmail.com. Thank you

Sure... I like talking. Which panel?
Hi Mark... I would love to contribute to the discussion, but I am by no means an expert in this field and I would hate to lead people on. But I do like games, and I do like thinking about their usefulness in various aspects of risk communication. So... if this is ok (and you don't mind a 30-yr old assistant professor talking his mind), sure. Send me details on what I need to prepare (AV, format, handouts) and expect (size and personalities of the audience), and I would be glad to play a part.
Hi Mark: My son just got out of the hospital yesterday, so I apologize for the delayed response. It seems that I may not be able to go to DC next week as originally planned... my son has a condition that is expected to worsen over the next week or so, which means that he needs at home assistance. My wife asserted to me that she cannot do it alone with my two other crazy kids running around the house. I really want to attend and participate next week, but alas I don't think this is feasible anymore. Sorry about that.
As I said in a previous message-- I may be able to convince a well-qualified American Red Cross colelague to be on the panel. Please tell me the specific topic (or it is just "understanding and perceiving risk" as in the name of this group?
I think I myself am tied up.
Dale Hill
My email is HillDal@usa.redcross. Please send more info on the panel. I sent an exploratory email to a colleague, but he is not yet registered. The two from Red Cross that I orginally alerted to the website who both registered are both on travel status (one to Haiti, one to Indonesia).
Regards, Dale Hill
Mark,You sent me a message about apearing on a panel on 5/29. I am interested. Please let me know if the offer still stands and any other details.Ray
Hi, Mark,The person I had in mind is not available. He works on disaster risk reduction in Asia. I am trying one other person who works on DRR in Latin America. But at this point if you have another possibility you should probably go with them. I also found out I need to cover the competing conference as my colleague is not available, so i cannot come. Also, given the long list of speakers, i am a bit confused which is the panel for whcih you have a gap, and are you expecting the person that I might line up to make an independent presentation, or simply be a commentator?Dale Hill
