The project aims at supporting the Malawi Government to develop institutional capability to manage disaster risk, support preparedness-enhancing strategic activities, and assist Mozambique in disaster management within the context of the country economy and growth strategies. Hazard, vulnerability and economic losses were all analyzed as part of a complete probabilistic risk assessment. The risk assessment resulted in two outcomes: 1) Determination that the greatest hazards in Malawi are drought and flood, and 2) Development of a follow-up Shire River Flood Management Planning exercise.
