Facilitating the provision of baseline vulnerability information on flood exposed communities in Ethiopia

2008 - 2012

The project aims to increase the resilience of flood affected communities in Ethiopia through series of seminars and training courses. A vulnerability assessment is essential in order to determine how the residents of each area are affected by flood hazard.  The vulnerability assessment includes collecting socioeconomic data on coping mechanisms, hazard impacts, household and community needs. The risk assessment will result in two outcomes: 1) Forming the basis  for a course on disaster risk management at Addis Ababa University, and 2) Adding to the national livelihoods database recommended by USAID/UN-OCHA, for strengthened national disaster management capacity.
