The development of index-based insurance and derivative contracts for agriculture has been facing technical challenges to model weather patterns that correlate with losses to farmers and finding spatial and historical weather data for assessing probabilities. This session present some of the new modelling techniques the Bank has been supporting to tackle some of the technical challenges faced for the design of index based insurance contracts. Modelling rain, wind, and flood has been improving in the past few years, and the presentation will seek to present some of these new methodology and approaches. The session's speakers represent some of the unique leaders in the field of modelling and agriculture risk management.
